Jessica Sanchez reaches 1M Twitter followers
MANILA – Filipino-American singer Jessica Sanchez finished second in the eleventh season of “American Idol” but she's now ahead of her former rivals in social media after gaining one million followers on the microblogging site Twitter.
Sanchez has made it to the worldwide and Philippine Twitter trends the past week, as her fans started the #JayTo1Million campaign for the 17-year-old singer.
With at least 1,000,096 followers, Sanchez is the first contestant from the last season of “Idol” to reach the 1-million mark.
As of posting, season 11 winner Phillip Phillips had 584,607 followers.
According to Sanchez, she will be treating her fans with a video chat conference once she reaches the coveted 1-million mark.
Using her Twitter account to reach out to her fans around the world, Sanchez has had a strong online fan base since the last season's competition.
If social media was the basis for the competition’s winner, Sanchez would have had a landslide victory, observers had said.
Last week, Sanchez staged her very first major solo concert in the Philippines.
She is now back in the United States promoting her debut album. She will also be releasing her very first single which will feature Grammy winner Ne-Yo this month.
