'Juan dela Cruz' nationwide ratings soars to 42.6%
ABS-CBN continues to dominate most watched shows
MANILA, Philippines -- The everyman-superhero series starring Coco Martin continues to dominate Philippine television, having registered its all-time highest nationwide rating on Thursday.
The February 21 episode of "Juan dela Cruz" managed to top the series' previous highest nationwide rating of 40.5%, set only two days earlier with the unfolding of the title character's abilities as an "aswang hunter."
According to the latest TV ratings data from multinational Kantar Media, the Kapamilya series registered 42.6% in national TV ratings on Thursday. Its rival programs aired on GMA-7, meanwhile, only garnered nationwide ratings of 16.9% ("24 Oras") and 18.8% ("Indio").
Closely trailing "Juan dela Cruz" as the No. 1 TV show in the country is another ABS-CBN primetime series.
Starring Maja Salvador and Kim Chiu, "Ina, Kapatid, Anak" has consistently registered high nationwide ratings as the discovery of Margaux's (Salvador) and Celyn's (Chiu) real identity casts conflicts within their families.
Also according to data from Kantar Media, the February 21 episode of the drama series registerd 40.4% in national TV ratings.
Completing the list of Top 5 most watched programs on the same day are three other Kapamilya offerings.
ABS-CBN's flagship newscast "TV Patrol" was at no. 3 with 30.9% nationwide ratings. "Be Careful With My Heart," the daytime "kilig-serye" starring Jodi Sta. Maria and Richard Yap, placed fourth with 28.7%; while Angelica Panganiban's drama series "Apoy sa Dagat" got 26.7%, good for fifth place.
Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes, more than AGB Nielsen's 1,980 homes that are only based in urban areas.
Kantar Media's panel represents 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while AGB Nielsen reportedly represents only 57% of the Philippine TV viewing population.
