Members of the popular rock band “Bamboo” have cried foul over reports blaming them for the February 13 riot, which critically injured a campus police, at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.

“There are some articles that came out in the newspapers and some news clips [implying] na our concert aren’t safe because of that February 13 event in the UP Fair. First of all, it wasn’t a Bamboo concert but was the annual UP Fair,” Bamboo’s manager, Pancho Gonzalez, told “SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon.”

Reports said, while Bamboo was performing on stage, a group of teenagers had tried to force their way inside the concert venue, triggering the riot. Almost 20 people were reportedly injured including university police Ramon Mondrigo.

Front man Francisco "Bamboo" Mañalac said the band has been performing in the event every year but that was the first time that a brawl took place. Mañalac also lamented that his band had been “singled out.”

“To be honest, our main concern only is that people got hurt and we don’t want people getting hurt and that's the bottom line,” the singer said.

“Huwag lang nating palabasin na parang nakakatakot ‘yong tugtugan. Laging masaya. Kung ibabalita man natin huwag nating takutin ang mga tao,” drummer Vic Mercado said.

Guitarist Ira Cruz said all of them were there to entertain everybody and have a good time.

“We don’t want this to happen. ‘Yon nga [it’s] unfortunate but it (the event) should be better next time,” Cruz said.
