MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) did not impose any sanctions against ABS-CBN’s concert variety show “ASAP” following the controversial production number of actress Anne Curtis two weeks ago.
The MTRCB said it helped that Curtis also promised not to wear extremely sexy outfits on television again.
In a meeting with the MTRCB panel on Tuesday, ABS-CBN executives presented the proper code of decorum for the Sunday variety show in the spirit of self-regulation. The MTRCB gave ABS-CBN a Monday deadline to submit a written code of decorum.
ABS-CBN also needs to designate a gender point person to coordinate with the MTRCB, the board said.
During the meeting, ABS-CBN executives also addressed the issue of stylists which, they said, will be covered by the network code of decorum.
Meanwhile, the management of the Kapamilya network welcomed this decision of the MTRCB.
In a statement, ABS-CBN head of Corporate Communications Bong Osorio said the network “will continue to cooperate with the MTRCB and ensure that its programs will be in accordance with the gender sensitivity guidelines of the board.”
“ABS-CBN thanks the board for hearing its side of the issue as it gives its assurance to self-regulate," Osorio added.
ABS-CBN’s TV Production Entertainment Head Laurenti Dyogi also told ABS-CBN News that they are glad that the MTRCB and the people behind “ASAP” conducted this meeting.
“It was just a dialogue lang naman. There was no case whatsoever. Of course we talked about the incident in ‘ASAP’ but as they said, there’s no penalty. It was just a dialogue between the network and the MTRCB,” he said.
Dyogi also believes Curtis did not do the controversial production number to offend anyone.
“Anne really is an empowered woman. I know she didn't do it para mapahiya ang ibang tao. It's her way of expressing herself. We recognize that as a network. If it offended some people, on behalf of Anne and the network, we apologize,” he said. – report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
