'Dante Balboa not a bogus college professor'
Instead of pursuing legal action against a movie columnist who wrote that he was a fake college professor, sexy actor Dante Balboa, or Elmer Anisco in real life, just let go of the accusation.
“Anyway, it’s not true. Why should I bother to see him in court? My credentials are true and I’m not hiding anything,” said Balboa, who made a mark in show biz when he appeared as a guest star in Philippine Educational Theater Association or PETA’s “The Bomb,” and played a sexy role in Seiko Films’ “Kasiping” with Halina Perez, Diana Zubiri and Rodel Velayo in 2002.
Dante, who’s taking up his Master of Arts in Mass Communication at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), is also a part-time professor of the state school even though he’s handling more than ten classes. “I am still in my probationary period,” he said.
He stays most of the time in school in Sta. Mesa and commutes to Pamantasan ng Makati in Makati City where he also handles undergraduate classes.
He teaches various disciplines like English, Literature, Mass Communication and other related courses. While he is a faculty member of the PUP College of Engineering, he also dabbles in the communication arts department of the university.
Busy Balboa
Balboa has also a hanging master’s course at the University of the Philippines where he took some units in Philosophy. “We had to read a lot of books and discuss a lot so I had to take my leave of absence yet to fulfill some academic obligations,” he said.
When he was accused of faking his educational attainment, Balboa was bothered because he had no bad blood with the movie press. “Kaibigan ko ang maraming movie reporter so I was surprised when that derogatory piece came out,” he volunteered.
Aside from teaching, Dante is also busy doing theater works and films and television shows.
“But I wanna direct films, kahit mga digital and independent films. I am looking for a producer to finance my script. It’s a beautiful script, and I believe it will sell even if it has only one character,” he stressed.
To make his classes more alive and relevant, he brings tools for video presentations to enhance and underscore his points about a given subject. “I even bring to school my own projector so that the lesson will be more emphatic and understood by the students,” he said.
