WATCH: Emotional Gerald looks back at career highs, lows
MANILA – Actor Gerald Anderson became emotional during an interview when asked what he has become in his eight years in show business.
Speaking to “Buzz ng Bayan” host Boy Abunda on Sunday, Anderson said showbiz taught him to become a stronger person.
“I became a man. Ako 'yung naging responsible for my family, sa nanay ko, sa kapatid ko. I wouldn’t have been able to do that kung hindi dahil sa showbiz,” he said.
Anderson, who began his entertainment career as a teen housemate on the hit reality show "Pinoy Big Brother," noted that it was not a smooth road for him noting, that he had his share of ups and downs in his career.
“Hindi siya para sa lahat. Mahirap talaga. I’ll be honest, ang daming beses na parang ayaw ko na. May mga bagay na nangyayari na parang hindi mo maintindihan. Pero I have my family and sila lang ang iniisip ko. If I quit, ano na mangyayari sa kanila?” he said.
Anderson said he just prays that he would be able to pull through everything.
“Every day [I talk to God]. I think that’s the main reason kung bakit naging positive pa rin ako. Hindi naging maganda ang takbo ng buhay mo minsan, lahat naman tayo we have our ups and downs. Si Papa God na ang bahala,” he said.
“Minsan masakit dahil gusto mo maging honest sa kanya and you feel the pain, kailangan mo ma-realize 'yung mga maling nagawa mo, 'yung mga tamang nagawa mo. Balancing your life, 'yun ang pinakamahirap,” he added.
But despite this, Anderson, who received rave reviews for his performance in last year's highly acclaimed action film "On the Job," still considers himself lucky. That's why he wants to use his status to reach out to underprivileged people.
“Hindi mapapantayan 'yung pakiramdam, 'yung feeling, 'yung saya na nakukuha ko sa charity sa mga nangangailangan. I’m in a position bilang isang artista, pwede akong maging inspirasyon sa mga kabataan na you should always help others and huwag kalimutan na mabait si God pero may ibang mas nangangailangan sayo. We have to hands,” he said.
