Mayor or governor? Luis weighs options
MANILA - Should he enter politics, TV host Luis Manzano said he would like to start as mayor of Lipa City, the same post held by his mother, Vilma Santos, before she became Batangas governor.
The 32-year-old actor, during his live interview on "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" on Wednesday, was asked which of the two positions he prefers to pursue should he decide to run for public office.
Co-hosts Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino noted that Manzano has been rumored to be reconsidering running for either Lipa mayor or Batangas governor in the 2016 elections.
"Kung saka-sakali mang papasok ako sa landas na 'yan, I think it would be proper to start as mayor," Manzano said. "Ayokong rumatrat kaagad and have so much even if I don't fully understand what I'm in."
As advised by his mother, who is tipped to be a possible vice-presidential candidate in 2016, Manzano said he intends to study first before entering politics.
"As of this conversation, hindi pa," he said, when asked to categorically answer whether he is planning to run. "I believe I have to study first. Pero malay natin, bukas baka mag-aral na ako ulit. [I can study] public administration and all the courses that mom took also."
Agreeing with Aquino, who noted he can always undergo "on-the-job training" under Santos in Batangas, Manzano added, "Of course, gusto ko magsimula ng mas mababa nang kaunti, dahil angdami ko pang kailangan matutunan."
"'You have to study,'" he said, recalling his mom's words. "Siya ang number one na nagsasabi sa akin niyan. And she wants to talk to me about it, actually."
Following the recent finale of the game show "Minute to Win It," which he hosted, Manzano announced on Wednesday that he is set to do another ABS-CBN project, but didn't share details.
