Fans and supporters of former President Joseph Estrada may be in for a big treat this year as he announced Thursday that he is writing a biography and will start filming a comedy picture with actress Ai-Ai de las Alas.

Estrada or "Erap" as he is fondly called, said he will sign a movie contract with Star Cinema next month.

The shooting of the comedy film starts in May, he said.

Estrada said "the script is underway", and he expects to play the role of a former overseas Filipino worker and husband of De las Alas' character.

He said he decided to go back to the movie screen again because "the people are crying in their homes" as a result of of poverty.

"I want to see them laugh—for relief," announced the former President during a press conference with the Foreign Correspondent Association of the Philippines at the Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City.

Estrada said he had not talked about the talent fee with the film's producers, but said he is planning to donate his earnings to Bantay Bata Foundation and the Mowel Fund.

Bantay Bata Foundation assists children in distress while Mowel Fund helps movie industry workers in need.

ERAP ‘GUMS-TO-GUMS’ WITH AI-AI

De las Alas said she is most willing to do a kissing scene with the former president. "Yes. Oo. Talagang gums-to-gums ika nga."

She said she will make Estrada happy and she would make sure that the former president wouldn't forget her once they finished the film.

"Papa, I will make you happy. …Ipa-promise ko sa kanya hinding hindi niya din ako makakalimutan, gagawin ko ang lahat," De Las Alas told "The Buzz."

De Las Alas said it is an honor for her to work with Estrada, and she will never forget the experience of working with the former president whom she considers a legend in Philippine show business.

Estrada said the movie with Ai-Ai would be his last.

"That’s the only one. No other movies. I don’t want to make a movie [titled] Lolo na si Erap," Estrada said jokingly.

DARKEST, HAPPIEST DAYS

Apart from a movie, the former president will also be busy writing a biography that will include the happiest and darkest days of his presidency.

The darkest days of his life, he said, were when people were "rallying" against him in 2001 after he was accused of earning millions from the "jueteng" operations in the country.

He also felt bad after learning that "people were conspiring" to oust him.

His best moment, meanwhile, was when his administration was winning the campaign against carnapping and kidnapping.

He added that one of his glorious days in Malacañang was when he was informed about the military’s successful take over of 46 camps from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

Estrada's book has no draft title yet and its release date has not been set.
