Charice defends Arnel Pineda
MANILA, Philippines - International singing sensation Charice defended Journey’s Filipino vocalist Arnel Pineda, who is now under fire for his wrong rendition of “Lupang Hinirang.”
Pineda was criticized by the National Historical Institute (NHI) for his incorrect rendition of the Philippine national anthem during the bout of Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey in Texas last March 14 (Manila time).
"Hindi na bago 'yan. Halos lahat ng kumanta ay napuna. Pero siyempre para sa akin talaga ang maganda ang pagkakanta ni Kuya Arnel," the young singer told abs-cbnNEWS.com in an exclusive interview.
The NHI has also reprimanded Charice when she performed “Lupang Hinirang” during the “Myx Mo” concert in 2008.
"Napanood ko ang kanta niya. For me ang galing ng pagkakanta niya… pero kung out of tune siya or off-beat, as a singer, wala akong narining na problema. Napansin ko lang na nagbago ang tono pero hindi out of tune," Charice added.
Charice, however, believes that Pineda did the right thing when he apologized to the NHI, saying it is the simplest way to end the controversy.
"Nag-sorry naman lahat ng na-reprimand, pati ako. So sa akin walang masama kung magso-sorry siya. Wala din namang mawawala," Charice said.
Currently, Charice is in the United States to work on her first international album, "Charice: A Star Is Born," which will be launched on May 11, or a day after her 18th birthday.

You're the one who should shut up. Charice, was simply asked about this topic and was honest in her answers as to what she feels.
Yes, maybe she may not be Barbara S.,Julie A., and etc. etc. those you've mentioned. But she's certainly on her way. And these legends started somewhere too, once they were like her.
With that said. What does her not being these people have to do with her answering what she's asked by the reporters, again? Right, NONE - NADA. So you be the one to shut up!

These singers should be not condemned like they're criminals. They did their best and I don't think they have bad or malicious intentions against the national anthem. They considered it a great privilege to sing their country's anthem and do their part in the grand stage. These singers did their fellow Filipinos proud by their achievements abroad, and now they look like they smashed the ten commandments or something. Kawawa naman sila. What a shame really to be treated as such by the very people these singers genuinely wanted to represent. Wala na lang pakantahin sa susunod, o kaya kung sino ung nagmamagaling, siya na lang yung kumanta.

i agree that hitting high notes does not make one a good singer. maaksidente ka pa dyan charisse. tsaka di maganda tingnan ang isang singer na parang umiiri habang kumakanta, agood voice is a good voice kahit di bumibirit, im not being anti nationalistic pero karamihan sa mga singers natin na sikat MAAARTE kanta na pinipilit pang ikanta. maawa naman kayo sa mga taong napipilitang makinig sa inyo dahil nakikinig ang mga kapitbahay nilang baduy.

These are singing legends that made it not because of hitting ear-piercing high notes but because of their inherent voice quality, depth, timing, breathing and phrasing.

anyways, batas is batas prin... sana lng..hndi lng sa "tono" particular ang gobyerno...pati narin sana sa ibang pang batas meron tyo... Minsan kc...madali lng sa mga tao na mgreact sa gngawa ng gobyerno patungkol sa pgpptupad ng batas..kc nman pili lng ang batas na pinapatupad ng mga ito...

Dont do it if you cant do it the right way.
In most countries in the world it is against the law to modify the National Anthem, except for the celebs in the Philippines.
If they don’t want to sing it the proper way then they should stick to their normal rubbish.
Manny should get a bit of the blame too, he should make sure that whoever does the “Lupang Hinirang “ before his fight, sings it the way the composer mend it to be.
