Latin pop icon Ricky Martin tells fans he is gay
LOS ANGELES - Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin, in a bombshell to legions of his fans all over the world, on Monday confirmed a longtime rumor that he is gay.
"I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am," he wrote on his official rickymartin.com website.
With his swiveling hips and scintillating salsa moves, Martin has been an object of adoration by million of fans around the world, especially of the female variety.
The Latin pop star records and performs mostly in Spanish but also has a huge crossover following in English, thanks in large part to his 1999 hit "Livin' La Vida Loca" ("Livin' the Crazy Life" in English).
Martin, 38, told his fans that his decision to divulge his sexual orientation marks "an amazing turning point in my life," and it started a few months ago when he began the process of writing his memoirs.
"From the moment I wrote the first phrase I was sure the book was the tool that was going to help me free myself from things I was carrying within me for a long time," Martin wrote on his website.
He said the secret over time had become "too heavy for me to keep inside" and that he joyfully embraces his gay identity as "something worth celebrating."
The pop singer added that he did not come out earlier because advisers over the years had warned that he might ruin his career were he to reveal to his fans that he is gay.
"Many people told me... 'all the years you've worked and everything you've built will collapse,'" he wrote.
"Allowing myself to be seduced by fear and insecurity became a self-fulfilling prophecy of sabotage. Today I take full responsibility for my decisions and my actions."
Coming out "fills me with strength and courage," Martin said.
"Today is my day, this is my time, and this is my moment."

I always though that he was gay
Not that I care, only think I don’t like is when he gets all the female fans hot to buy his music and even hires girls to act as his girlfriend just to screw his fans out of their money.
What I wonder more, is the way some people in here hold a discussion? Can’t you people responds to another comment without getting aggressive???
I red all the comments in here and everybody got his point, but at the same time some are not objective.
It’s a free world, people are allowed to have their own opinion, if you don’t agree bring facts against it.

Personally i dont favor "gay"..coz naturally, biblically there are male and female only... I dont know wat was/were the reason(s) behind this being "gay".. personally also i cant explain or say anything about them..its just that they are different from the "should be" of nature...

And to comment on your statement, this is definitely a CIVIL RIGHTS issue since people like you chose to differentiate us instead of embracing us as one of you, a fellow human being. The thing that bugs me so much is when the gay community begins demanding special laws to be created ,just for them,heck they even want to be a legislator in the philippines..Well let me tell why its idiotic...HOMOSEXUALITY is a preference, a sexual deviant,...A FUCKING CHOICE !!! it is NOT A CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE, thereforfe no constitutional rights are violated, if one chooses to go up against a homosexual..but nowadays, they have been forming this group and calling themselves freedom gay fighter and wants special rights,just for them..NO !!! just because you choose to have sex w/ the opposit sex,does not make you special,or different, and if anyone objects, like the COMELEC, they start the name branding..islating that person and calling him..and we cannot have that in our society, heck we cannot even afford to educate our children,AGAIN..I AM NOT AGAINST GAY PEOPLE OR A HOMOPHOBE,but just want to clearout what sexual deviant means, and as a tax paying filipino,We cannot allow every group to form as a political party and hide the true intentions of what they really want, and that is POWER TO RULE !!!@ NO TO NOYNOY !!!

I always thought he was gay. Second, if you think gays are now widely with open arms accepted by society, your as naive as the next guy. Gays are still struggling for acceptance are still target of hate crimes and prejudice despite improvements over the years. Why do you think a lot famous gay people still choose to keep who they are to themselves? A lot of gay people are still afraid to come out of the closet for fear of discrimination.
Let the guy be... If he's gay, let him be. Whatever he is has nothing to do with you. Whatever he does in his personal life has nothing to do with you. What he is, is none of our F---ing business.
