Carmen Soo studying Tagalog, Pinoy culture
Malaysian actress Carmen Soo disclosed that she is now studying Tagalog as part of her preparation for her upcoming movie with Jericho Rosales, a former leading man, and Kristine Hermosa.
After her successful drama television series in the country, Soo is back in Manila to continue her career here. Soo is the latest addition to ABS-CBN's elite group of talents, Star Magic.
"So I came here to take Tagalog lessons. I couldn't find a teacher in Malaysia who could fulfill the requirement of giving me full time lesson everyday and also a professional teacher," Soo, the star of the now defunct TV series “Kahit Isang Saglit,” said.
Her Tagalog proficiency has been tested when she made a special appearance on "T2." The actress said her lines were all in Tagalog.
"I know that as much as can learn Tagalog, it will make the shoot easier for me,” she said.
“I'm learning to form longer sentences, trying to learn many words as I can but I think I have Malay language background so that makes it a bit easier than for example if a Caucasian or American learning Tagalog,” she added.
She said she is taking her time to learn the language.
"I don’t think you can speak Tagalog fluently in a month but it will help in pronouncing words when I do my lines, in shooting, and at least understanding what I'm saying now than before," she said.
To be able to understand Filipino culture, Soo is also reading books about the country.
