CHR head concerned over Maria Venus Raj’s case
MANILA, Philippines – Dethroned 2010 Binibining Pilipinas-Universe Maria Venus Raj has found an ally in Commission on Human Rights chair Leila de Lima.
In her statement sent to ABS-CBN News, De Lima said she is concerned about Raj’s situation. The Filipino-Indian beauty from Camarines Sur was dethroned due to “inconsistencies” in her birth records.
The CHR head said the beauty queen’s case “deserves serious scrutiny.”
“She's a fellow Bicolana who hails from a neighboring town of my hometown, Iriga City. Preliminarily, I ask, was Ms. Raj given her day before being stripped of her title? What was the exact basis for the decision to dethrone her?” she said.
Raj has vowed to question the decision of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) to dethrone her. The beauty queen said she is prepared to bring her case to the court.
According to BPCI, there are some inconsistencies contained in Raj's birth records in contrast to her personal account of her birth.
Raj, however, maintained that the officials of the BPCI knew from the very beginning the incorrect entries in her birth certificate. She said she was transparent during the pre-pageant screening of candidates.
Second runner-up Helen Nicolette Henson has been named Raj’s replacement.
Henson, the 21-year-old Broadcast Journalism major at St. Scholastica's College, took over Raj’s place after the pageant’s 1st runner up failed to meet the age requirement of the Miss Universe Pageant.

CHR on BPCI
I hope CHR support will not lessen their support for Ms. Raj, this is really a topic on human rights, why? Because this issue may lead an impression that child born out of marriage has less rights thus if they wish to represent the Philippines in international beauty pegeant they will be dethrone. I know this might sound too rational but it honestly leave me that impression.

I bet Nicolette Henson is relative of Aranetas. from the very beginning bet na nila si Henson but then unfortunately, hndi nagustohan ng mga judges kaya hindi nanalo. BPCI find ways para mapatalsik si Raj at makoronahan si Henson... BRAVO BPCI, ang galing nyo! ugalian nyong gawin yan at sigurado ako malayo mararating nyo.
To the BPCI committee: try to put yourselves sa shoes ni Raj, nasa cloud9 na kayo, feeling fulfilled dahil nakamit yung matagal na pinangarap tapos bigla mawawala dahil sa walang kwntang dahilan. Mag-isip naman sana kayo. Pinaghirapan yan ng tao hndi basta-basta lang nakuha.
To Nicolette Henson: Kung may konting hiya kang natira sa sarili mo, wag mo tanggapin ang korona... Or baka naman binayaran mo ang BPCI to give you the crown? Hope im wrong.

We need to rally behind Venus. Binibining Pilipinas is an elitist organization and only favor those who have money and connections. Venus wom the crown fair and square. I think just because she has no money and connections that Binibining Pilipinas is detroning her.
Elitism should now be vanished from the Philippine society. Shame on you Binibining Pilipinas organizers!
Another Boo Boo by BPCI
BPCI is not fair to Venus, why disqualify her after she won? Why not during the interview and qualification process? What's going on BPCI? Your outfit stinks! Please play fair and square, if you made an error and you qualified her as a contestant, you cannot renege on the outcome of the contest! Go ahead Venus, you have a very strong case here, I just hope you find some good lawyers to argue this issue in court.
