Kris Aquino returns to 'Pilipinas Got Talent'
Talent search live show kicks off
MANILA -- Kris Aquino returned to "Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT)" on Saturday, after announcing her resignation from all her TV programs, including the reality talent search, last month.
The 42-year-old actress-host once again joined her fellow judges on the program, comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas and former ABS-CBN President Freddie Garcia, in assessing the performances of six of the 36 acts in the show's quarterfinals.
Aquino, who returned to the Philippines on Friday from a vacation in France, earlier announced that she was tendering her resignation from all her showbiz commitments, following a controversy involving her former partner James Yap.
The management of ABS-CBN, however, said the actress-host will be required to fulfill her commitments to "PGT," which will end in June, citing the program being a foreign franchise with "rules we need to abide by."
In its first live telecast of the season, its fourth since 2010, "PGT" on Saturday had the first batch of quarterfinals contestants perform for the votes of Filipino televiewers.
Hosted by Billy Crawford and Luis Manzano, the performance night was held at PAGCOR Grand Theater in Parañaque City.
Performing live for the first time on the show were the dance group All in One Crew, magician Marvin Arquero, martial arts trio Seguitier Triplets, The Security and Escort Batllion Combo Philippine Army band, flair tender Chaeremon Basa, and singing trio The Miss Tres.
According to Aquino, who was all-smiles during the live telecast, the act with the highest votes will automatically advance to the semifinals.
To determine which act will take the second semifinals slot among the first batch of performers, the judges will choose between the contestants which garnered the second and third most number of votes.
The results of voting will be announced live on Sunday.
