Flairtender, gay trio advance to 'PGT' semifinals
MANILA, Philippines – A young flairtender and a gay trio are moving on to the semifinal round of the TV reality search “Pilipinas Got Talent.”
In the first quarterfinals match, Chaeremon Basa, who performed bartending tricks, received the most number of text votes, garnering 28.09% of the total – or around 4 percentage points higher than the No. 2 act.
“Hindi pa rin ako (makapaniwala),” an emotional Basa told hosts Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford on Sunday's live results show. “Salamat sa lahat ng gumastos.”
Judge Ai Ai delas Alas was moved by Basa’s reaction. “Grabe kinilabutan ako dahil nakita kong naiiyak siya. Siguro marami na siyang fans,” she said.
While Basa automatically advanced to the next round, The Miss Tres, composed of three flamboyant gay men with big manly voices, had to battle it out with the Security and Escort Battalion Combo of the Philippine Army for the judges’ vote to enter the semifinals.
Miss Tres peformed Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” while the army group sang Ricky Martin’s 1998 World Cup theme “The Cup of Life.”
All three judges selected the gay trio to join Basa in the semifinals.
“Alam naman natin na kakaiba ang kanilang boses …Doon ako sa kalahi ko, anf The Miss Tres,” delas Alas said.
Meanwhile, judge Kris Aquino said she based her vote on talent, creativity and their performance that night. “Utak ko ba or puso ko ba ang paiiralin ko? Kanina ba talaga ako bumilib?” she said. “Ang boto ko ngayong gabi ay para sa Miss Tres.”
For his part, former ABS-CBN president Freddie Garcia agreed with the two female judges but thanked the army group for joining “Pilipinas Got Talent.”
“We’re happy that you are participating here and you were very good,” he told them.
Failing to get enough text votes to move them to the next round were light dancers All In One Crew, the arnis stunt act Segutier Triplets and magician Marvin Aqrquero.
