Beth Tamayo speaks on China execution rumor
MANILA, Philippines - Actress Beth Tamayo broke her silence on rumors that she and executed drug courier Elizabeth Batain are the same person.
In a message sent to director Dante Nico Garcia via Blackberry messenger (BBM), Tamayo said that she is very much alive.
She added that she has never even been to China, the country where she was supposedly executed.
"Di pa kaya ako nakakapunta ng China...Salamat sa mga nag-alala...Ayaw ko nang patulan ('yung balita)," she said.
Garcia, one of Tamayo's close friends, said he has been communicating with the actress for the past 3 months via BBM and social networking sites.
Tamayo is currently in the United States and is "having the time of her life."
"She has a corporate job somewhere so enjoy na enjoy siya. May sarili siyang buhay ngayon," Garcia told "The Buzz," adding, "Whenever she talks about it, alam mo 'yung saya. Kita mo 'yung saya."
YES! magazine associate editor Anna Pingol, for her part, said it's impossible for Tamayo to have been executed in China.
"Every now and then talagang ini-interview ko si Beth through e-mail," Pingol told "The Buzz."
Batain's face was never shown in the media, not even before she and 2 other Filipino drug couriers were executed in China last March 30.
Television host Kris Aquino, who recently visited her remains, said she was a different person from Tamayo.
Hundreds went to the San Narciso Municipal Cemetery in Quezon province on Sunday to attend Batain's funeral.
Meanwhile, Batain's family urged the government to stop drug syndicates, like the one which hired their kin as a drug courier. -- With a report from ANC
