Sam Concepcion breaks silence on Anne Curtis
'I will go through whatever for Jasmine'
MANILA -- Sam Concepcion on Thursday spoke for the first time on his reported encounter with Anne Curtis, the older sister of his rumored girlfriend, Jasmine, during a party at an upscale bar in Makati City.
Speaking with reporters shortly after a press conference for his new endorsement, Chef's Noodles, the 21-year-old singer confirmed that he and Anne talked during comedian Vice Ganda's birthday celebration last March 31.
"We did see each other and we did talk," Concepcion said. "Of course, I understand where she's coming from. I understand what she's saying. I understand that... kasi katulad din, gano'n, if I had a little sister, siyempre I will look out for my sister. Siyempre all of that has valid reasons."
The first report about the incident, which was published on April 1 on Philippine Entertainment Portal, cited an unnamed source who "got the details from a party guest at the celebration."
PEP quoted the source as saying that Anne "drank at the party," and that the actress told Concepcion: "Why are you here? Who invited you? You are not classy enough to be here!"
Anne, according to the report, then allegedly asked Concepcion: "Ba't mo niloloko ang kapatid ko?"
About two hours after the report was published, Anne took to Instagram to clarify that while she spoke with Concepcion about Jasmine, she did not "say any of those words written in the article."
Asked if he was surprised when Anne approached him at the party, Concepcion said, "Siyempre, opo, it was a surprise. Wala naman po sa aming ini-expect na... It was a surprise."
"But 'yun nga, she has her reasons, whatever reason. Siyempre, family po 'yun ni Jasmine, e, so maiintindihan ko po. And I really respect her. I respect Anne, I respect her family," he said.
Concepcion was also asked if he felt he was "humiliated" by Anne, as alleged in the report, and whether the actress seemed drunk when she spoke with him.
"Hindi ko alam. Kasi minsan mahirap... malilito ka na rin sa mga nangyayari. Tsaka sa daming lumalabas... So totoo lang po, I'm really overwhelmed by all of this," he said.
"Ako po kasi, I'm very understanding of people," he added, when asked if how he felt when Anne talked to him. "Parang wala rin kasi akong space to feel that way (humiliated) kasi I'm really doing it for Jas. And siyempre I will go through whatever for her."
Asked if he has already spoken with Anne after the incident, Concepcion said he reached out to the "Dyesebel" star to clarify things.
"Siyempre, as the guy -- I'm the one courting Jas, ako 'yung nanliligaw, 'di ba -- whatever the situation, it's always the guy who has to make an effort. Iyon talaga 'yung stand ko, so siyempre, like I said, gagawin ko naman po lahat for Jasmine."
"The important part is we're okay. Okay po kami ni Anne, ni Jasmine," Concepcion said, adding he remains in good terms with Jasmine's other family members, including mom Carmencita.
Jasmine 'very, very special'
Concepcion, however, expressed concern over rumors romantically linking him with "Mirabella" co-star Julia Barretto, which some said may have been the reason Anne spoke with him about her sister.
He noted that leading up to the party last March 30, he and Jasmine had no "tampuhan" or misunderstanding.
"Well, of course, there's no truth to that," Concepcion said, referring to speculation that he is courting Barretto. "'Yun nga po, sana nga po hindi na po lumaki 'yung issue and may iba-iba na pong story na lumabas. Kasi, siyempre, it involves po my relationship with them. Ayoko lang po na ma-taint..."
Concepcion also urged his fans against wishing ill of Anne, who only recently resumed work after being confined in a hospital due to a box jellyfish attack while taping "Dyesebel."
"Hindi dapat natin wini-wish ang masama kahit kanino. No one deserves that. Hindi dapat mangyari 'yon sa kahit sinong tao," Concepcion said.
He added: "Nagulat ako kasi nakita ko medyo matindi 'yung... I think she's been recovering and I'm praying for her speedy recovery para makabalik na siya sa trabaho."
Asked for his message to Anne, Concepcion reiterated his feelings for Jasmine, who has likewise become more vocal of her relationship with the singer.
"You know, whatever has transpired with us, I hope siyempre you understand that I will respect her, I will respect Jasmine. Ate 'yun, e. I will do anything Jasmine, gagawin ko kahit ano. She is very, very special to me. I won't let anything get in the way."
