The island of Boracay has always been known for its white sand beaches, pristine waters and a gathering of local and foreign tourists all hoping for the perfect getaway.

However, if you want to get away from the maddening crowd, the recently opened Shangri-La Boracay Resort and Spa is perfect for you.

There's plenty of talk on which celebrities and public figures who have stayed or are planning to stay in the world-class hotel. Weeks ago, rumors spread that Hollywood couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie stayed at the Shangri-La resort.

Although rumor of the famous couple's getaway to Boracay was immediately debunked, interest in the resort soared.

“To make it Filipino authentic as possible, we’ve used almost exclusively materials and items from the Philippines,” said Andre Kretschmann, the hotel’s general manager.

The resort opened last March and boasts of 12 hectares of different villas, all designed to reflect the Filipino culture. Rattan weaving, bamboo structures and paintings reflecting Philippine culture are highlighted in the resort.

But paradise does come at a hefty price. Some of the villas in the resort cost up to P130, 000 a night. A one-hour massage at its spa costs P6,000 and a total spa treatment could go up to P22,000.

Whether or not Juan dela Cruz is ready to spend for a luxury resort like this, one thing's for sure, local and foreign tourists heading to Boracay have another choice on where to spend their summer getaway.
