Julie Vega remembered in first 'Annaliza' trailer
MANILA, Philippines -- For many TV viewers in the '80s, Julie Vega is synonymous to "Anna Liza."
In the first trailer for the upcoming remake of the classic soap that was released online on Wednesday, the late Vega is remembered as the actress who brought the title character to life for six years.
The original "Anna Liza" first aired in 1979 and ended with an incomplete story after Vega's untimely death in 1985 due to cardiac arrest and bronchopneumonia.
Now almost 30 years since its abrupt ending, "Anna Liza" will be re-introduced to a new generation of TV viewers with child actress Andrea Brillantes taking on the title role.
As "Annaliza," Brillantes will be seen in the series directed by Theodore Boborol as "the girl who loves with all her heart despite her struggles in life."
The 10-year-old Brillantes, whose former screen name was Blyth Gorostiza, joined the kiddie gag show "Goin' Bulilit" in 2010. She was also cast as the young Jackie, later played by actress Jessy Mendiola, in the drama series "Budoy."
Brillantes was also part of the numerous other Kapamilya series, including "E-Boy," "Kahit Puso'y Masugatan" and "Ina, Kapatid, Anak."
The child actress will be joined in "Annaliza" by Denise Laurel, Kaye Abad, Carlo Aquino and Zanjoe Marudo.
The series is expected to start airing later this year.
