Group backs Bebe Gandanghari’s reported sex change plan
MANILA, Philippines – Ang Ladlad party-list group is backing the reported plan of Bebe Gandanghari to undergo sex change.
The party-list group for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT) has given Gandanghari its “moral support.”
Although Gandanghari is not an official member of the organization, the gay actor, formerly known as Rustom Padilla, is a supporter of Ang Ladlad.
Ang Ladlad is demanding equal rights for LGBT people and calling for the alleviation of their plight in the society.
"Hindi lahat ng bading ay kagaya nina Boy Abunda at Ricky Reyes. Maraming mga parlorista ang nabubuhay lang sa tip," said Ang Ladlad head Danton Remoto, referring to the country’s 2 biggest television personalities.
If the group wins in May 10 elections, Remoto vowed to build retirement houses for elderly and abandoned members of LGBT. He also promised to pass a law ensuring equal employment rights for gays.
The group, meanwhile, endorsed on Wednesday the candidacies of Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and vice presidential contender Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay of the Pwersa ng Masa-United Opposition.
Remoto denied that Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero was behind the group’s endorsement.
Reports said Escudero, a member of Aquino's political party, was supporting Aquino’s candidacy but not his running mate, Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II. Esucero is said to be supporting Binay, the running mate of former president Joseph Estrada. -Report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
