'Megastar' meets 'Comedy Queen' in big screen flick
For the first time in the history of showbiz, Megastar Sharon Cuneta and the Queen of Comedy Ai-Ai delas Alas will pair up for the big screen on Star Cinema's 16th anniversary presentation "Best Friends Forever (BFF)."
Under the direction of the country's top comedy director Wenn V. Deramas, "BFF" tells the story of two best friends who are unaware that they are out for the same man, played by well-acclaimed actor John Estrada.
In the movie, the two box office queens portray contrasting personalities who eventually develop a bond. But will their new friendship stand the test of time? Will they let a hunky man drive them apart?
In "BFF", expect top-rate comic chemistry as the two queens of showbiz also develop a special off-screen friendship.
In a previous interview with SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon,” Delas Alas was bursting with happpiness after being given the chance to work with the Megastar.
“Ako siyempre dati ko pa sinasabi na I’m so honored na kasama ko ang nag-iisang Megastar sa pelikula. Kasi siyempre noong araw, noong 80’s pinapanood ko na siya at isa siya sa talagang nagagalingan akong actress natin,” delas Alas said.
Meanwhile, Cuneta said she was also thrilled to be working with one of her favorite comediennes. “Karamihan ng Tagalog movies sa iPod ko [ay movies niya]. Kasi she makes me so happy sa movies niya. Ang laking bagay ng pinapasaya ako ng pinapanood ko,” Cuneta shares.
As a professional actress, Cuneta doesn't mind playing up her weight just to make the film funny and worth watching.
"Yung issues niya sa weight in-embrace niya doon sa kwento pinlay up niya and she's very open about it and she's very candid about it," explains Roxy Liquigan of Star Cinema's advertising and promotions.
After the success of Cuneta’s “Caregiver” and delas Alas’ “Ang Tanging Ina Niyong Lahat,” Star Cinema’s BFF vows to be another winning ensemble with its powerhouse combination, an excellent script by Mel del Rosario and superb direction from Deramas.
"BFF" is Cuneta’s first venture into comedy after a long hiatus and Delas Alas's first comedy film with one of the best dramatic in the Philippine cinema.
Joining Cuneta and delas Alas are Chokoleit, Joy Viado, Empress Shuck, Enchong Dee, Miles Ocampo, DJ Durano and Ms. Gina Pareño.
"BFF" will hit theaters nationwide this coming May 13.
