Megastar Sharon Cuneta crossed political party lines on Thursday to express support for re-electionist senator Jinggoy Estrada.

The showbiz political twist surprised Estrada who did not expect the Megastar's attendance at a party tendered by producer Lily Monteverde for him at Imperial Suites in Quezon City with talent managers and showbiz media.

Except for her endorsement of Liberal Party stalwarts -- senator Noynoy Aquino and re-electionist Batangas Governor Vilma santos, Cuneta had avoided endorsing other candidates, more so, candidates from rival political parties.

At the Imperial Suites presscon, the actress extolled the qualities of Estrada and lovingly referred to him as his kumpare and "ex suitor". Cuneta is one of the biggest celebrity endorsers this season, along with Dolphy, Willie Revillame and Kris Aquino.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, senator Estrada thanked Cuneta for showing her support.

"I am deeply honored at natutuwa ako kahit papaano eh sinuportahan ako ni kumareng Sharon (Cuneta) kahit hindi niya sinasabi. Her presence in the presscon hosted by Mother Lily...her action speaks louder than words. Ako'y natutuwa. I feel very, very humbled by her presence so maraming maraming salamat sa'yo Sharon," Estrada said.

He added: "kasi si Sharon matagal na kaming magkaibigan since she was 13 years old. She's a dear friend through thick and thin."

Asked if he would still seek the help of Cuneta to campaign him in his sorties, Estrada replied: "Hindi na. Masyado na akong abusado at humingi pa ako ng tulong. Basta yung makadalo siya at nakapunta siya sa presscon kanina ay malaking bagay na yun.

Aside from Cuneta, stars like Bayani Agbayani, Tirso Cruz and Lorna Tolentino are always there to support Estrada. Report by Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News.
