MANILA – At 17, Julia Barretto is already aware of her responsibility to save up to secure her future.

In an interview with the entertainment site push.com.ph, Barretto said her mother, former actress Marjorie Barretto, has been helping her with money matters.

“Siyempre nag-agree kami ni Mommy na I’m going to save yung lahat ng naipon ko sa endorsements. Kasi pang-future ko na yun habang I’m still under her care and her home, I can still save up pa naman. So siguro the things that I want to buy, siguro mangagaling na yun sa mga mall show, mga tapings, ganun,” she said.

Barretto said she would like to have her own business knowing that there is no assurance of a stable showbiz career.

“Personality ko na talaga na medyo kuripot ako (laughs). Actually kuripot talaga ako. I’m so scared to spend unless I know that it’s really what I want. You’ll know that you want it if you keep going back to it di ba? I feel kasi that there’s so many things that I want when I’m older na kaya alam ko na I want to save it. Pero siyempre dapat may investments rin and my mom’s slowly teaching me that. I trust my mom so hina-hand ko sa kanya yung mga investments, yung mga ganung stuff, money stuff,” she said.

When asked what kind of business she has in mind, the “Mirabella” actress said, “It’s actually my dream to have my own business, like a clothing line or franchise a restaurant like Jollibee. Besides being an actress, I really want to be a businesswoman also.”

This, however, does not mean that Barretto has no plans of staying in the entertainment industry for long.

“There’s still so many things I want to achieve in this business like 10 years, 20 years from now I still want to hopefully be acting in movies, making more TV shows and achieving awards. I want to be an actress and businesswoman at the same time hopefully. School is a must,” she said.

With her busy schedule due to numerous endorsements and a regular TV show, Barretto said she rewards herself with some “guilty pleasures.”

“May prize ako. Sinasabi ko sa Mommy ko, ‘I deserve a prize!’ Like let’s say a bag or a pair of shoes, what girls usually like to buy. I give myself a prize,” she said.
