American Idol's Allison Iraheta to perform in Manila
HOLLYWOOD - Once again, an American Idol star is making a debut international performance as a recording artist in the Philippines.
Season 8 finalist Allison Iraheta will be performing at Robinson's Place Manila on May 4.
“To my Filipino fans, thank you so much for the support. You guys are awesome. Make sure you check me out at Robinson's Mall and my album," Iraheta said.
Before "Idol", the 18-year-old singer had a humble start performing for shoppers at the Hispanic electronics and appliance store.
“It was called Dias Delos Ninos. They closed the parking structure. It was huge and there was a bunch of people. They had me sing Mi Ranchito, my little ranch. I remember my dad recorded it and when we looked back it was shaking so much, and we were like 'What's going on?' and he said 'I was so nervous,'" said Iraheta.
Iraheta said her hardworking parents, first generation immigrants from El Salvador, inspire her to always do her best.
Her debut album "Just like you" was partly dedicated to them.
“I dedicated some of those songs for my parents because if not for them I wouldn't be here. They've supported me so much," she said.
“It was hard for them coming from there to here. But they're still doing it. They didn't let anything get in their way. I wouldn't be here if not for my mom and dad and my sister who took me to these tiny places that helped me grow in singing," she added.
Though her album has songs about love and relationships, the singer said she doesn't have a boyfriend at this time and laughs at fan rumors linking her to fellow Idol alum, David Archuleta.
“So funny, we tweet each other and they're like ‘they're a couple now coz they're tweeting each other,’” she said.
When asked if she has a boyfriend, Iraheta said “No, I don't. If it happens, it happens. If not, I'm good. I'm happy with that one.”
After her Philippine trip, the star will be traveling all over the US opening for Idol castmate Adam Lambert's concert tour.
