Willie Revillame to ABS-CBN: Fire Jobert or I'll quit
MANILA, Philippines – Fire him or I will resign.
Controversial "Wowowee" host Willie Revillame on Tuesday dared ABS-CBN management to fire entertainment writer Jobert Sucaldito for allegedly insulting the contestants of his popular noontime program.
Revillame, who was fuming mad, threatened to resign if Sucaldito remains with ABS-CBN. Sucaldito is a co-host of “The Buzz” and radio dzMM’s “Showbiz Mismo.”
Revillame slammed Sucaldito for asking why “Wowowee” invited high school students with general average of 75 to 79 to become contestants.
"Nanawagan ako sa management ng ABS-CBN, huwag ninyo namang payagan na tinitira ang show. Ang laki ng kita ng 'Wowowee' para sa ABS. Mamili na kayo. Kapag hindi ninyo 'yan tinanggal ako ang magre-resign dito sa 'Wowowee.' Tandaan ninyo yan," he said.
"Wala na kayong ginawa kung hindi tirahin ako dito. Ilang taon na akong tumatahimik. Tinitira ako sa dyaryo ng Jobert na yan. Tahimik lang ako. Pero tandaan ninyo ito kapag hindi ninyo yan tinanggal ako ang magre-resign dito. Para po sa mga tao ito. Para sa mga taong espesyal, para sa mga 75% ang grades. Ipaglalaban ko ang mga estudyanteng yan.
"Sobra na. Huwag mong idadamay ang programang ito. Ang programang ito, ang may-ari ay Filipino. Hindi ito [sa] magra-radyo. Mamaya yan kapag tinira mo pa ako, hindi na ako papasok dito sa ABS-CBN. Tandaan ninyo yan. ABS-CBN management, gawan ninyo ng paraan yan. Alagaan ninyo ang mga talent ninyo dahil kami ang nagbubuhos dito ng pagod at lahat. Huwag naman na dito sa sarili naming tahanan ay tinitira kami dito," he added.
Meant to inspire
When sought for reaction, Sucaldito told ABS-CBN News: “Hindi pa nga nananalo manok niya, ginaganyan na niya mga tao. Ano pa kung nakaupo na manok niya, saan na tayo pupulutin?"
Sucaldito’s close friend and “Showbiz Mismo” co-host, Wendell Alvarez, came to his defense.
"Nagulat na lang kami biglang nag-react si Willie. Wala namang sinabi si Jobert doon sa radio about sinisiraan siya. Ang sinabi lang ni Jobert ay tungkol doon sa 75 to 79 grades," Alvarez told abs-cbnNEWS.com.
Ramos said Sucaldito’s remark was meant to inspire the students and not insult them.
He also denied that Sucaldito
referred to the contestants as stupid.
"Hindi niya sinabi na bobo. Ang sinabi niya bakit 75 to 79 ang kukunin, bakit hindi mataas? Para [ma-inspire] ang mga bata na mag-aral ng mabuti para makakuha ng 90 average grade para makapasok ako sa ‘Wowowee,’” Alvarez said.
He added: Ang tagal na noon, last week [pa]? Bakit ngayon lang siya nag-react?"
When asked to comment on Revillame’s threat to resign, Alvarez said: "Di mag-resign siya!"
In an official statement, ABS-CBN said it is already talking to both parties about the issue.
"Kinausap kaagad ng pamunuan ng ABS-CBN si Willie at Jobert tungkol sa isyu sa pagitan nila. Naniniwala ang ABS-CBN na maaayos ito sa magandang pag-uusap at di nararapat magsagutan pa sa ere," the statement said. -With a report from Reyma Buan-Deveza, abs-cbnNEWS.com
