Kris thanks INC for endorsing bro
MANILA, Philippines -- Queen of All Media Kris Aquino extended her appreciation to Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) for endorsing her brother, Liberal Party presidential bet Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III and LP's vice presidential bet Manuel "Mar" Roxas II.
In her Twitter page, Kris said that INC's decision to support his brother is an inspiring blessing to their family.
"On behalf of our family- thank u to INC Executive Minister, Ka Eduardo Manalo & lahat ng kapatid namin sa Iglesia ni Cristo for choosing to support Noy&Mar;. We r so grateful for this inspiring blessing. Headed now to Nueva Ecija & Pampanga," Kris said.
On Wednesday, INC executive minister Eduardo Manalo officially endorsed Liberal Party tandem Aquino and Roxas.
Manalo announced the names of the candidates through a "palibot liham" distributed during Wednesday's worship service at the INC central temple in Quezon City.
Two million votes
The support of the religious group is courted by many candidates, both national and local, since the INC votes as a bloc. The practice is rooted in the INC's belief in the principle of unity.
INC voters account for around 3% of the electorate or between 1.5 million to 2 million votes.
The INC previously endorsed the candidacies of Joseph Estrada and Gloria Arroyo in the 1998 and 2004 presidential elections, respectively.
In a close race, such as the 2004 race between President Arroyo and actor Fernando Poe Jr., INC's support can spell the difference between victory and defeat.
Many local politicians who need the support of the INC also often support the presidential candidate chosen by the INC leader.
Aquino courted INC
Presidential bet Aquino admitted on Saturday that he and his sisters had met with INC executive minister Eduardo Manalo and sought the INC’s support for his presidential bid. They also thanked him for his prayers for their late mother, Corazon Aquino, who died August 1, 2009 from colon cancer.
On Sunday, Kris appeared on "The Buzz" and denied that she composed a text message thanking the INC for its supposed endorsement for the presidential bid of her brother, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
Kris revealed that a close friend of hers alarmed her about the circulating text message.
According to her, the text message read: “Hi everyone, please help me pass on the good news that Iglesia is supporting Noy. Was afraid he would support Erap ‘coz of their malalim na pinagsamahan. Pero I guess they were fair-weather after all and going for the sure winner. Haha. Too bad for Erap, good for us. This secures victory – Kris.”
The television host-actress said she has “too much respect” for the religious sect to even consider making such an announcement before the INC could make up its mind regarding its presidential bet in the coming elections.
She also said her family fully supports former president Joseph Estrada who is Noynoy's rival in the presidential race.
“Pangalawa po, mahal na mahal ng pamilya Aquino si president Erap (Joseph Estrada) for the simple reason na minahal at binigyan po niya ng respeto ang nanay po namin,” Kris, the youngest daughter of the late former president Corazon Aquino, said.
She suspects that the text message is part of the black propaganda against Noynoy.

Kris on Noynoy's detractors: Gusto ko silang saksakin
Television personality Kris Aquino cried foul over what she called as below-the-belt propaganda against her brother, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III, the leading presidential candidate in the May 10 elections.
“Galit ako sa kanila. Gusto ko silang saksakin (I am mad at them. I want to stab them)," Kris said of her brother’s detractors in an interview aired over QTV’s “Balitanghali" on Sunday.
The outspoken actress did not identify anyone in particular, but she was referring to the personalities accusing Noynoy of having an unsound mind.
At least two supposed psychiatric reports on Noynoy had been recently circulated on the Internet by unknown groups, but both were proven forged. The latest report said Noynoy suffered from depression in 1979.

Kris and Noynoy are children of the late President Corazon “Cory" Aquino and slain Sen. Benigno “Ninoy" Aquino Jr.
In the interview, Kris also belied the claim of Philippine Star columnist Carmen Pedrosa who, citing second-hand information, said the elder Aquino asked a certain Dr. Steve Aguilar to examine Noynoy when their family was in Boston from 1980 to 1983.
“Hindi ganoon ang pagkaka-kilala ko sa tatay ko. Hindi ganoon ang naging relasyon ni Ninoy Aquino at Noynoy Aquino (That was not how I knew my father. That was not the kind of relationship between Ninoy Aquino and Noynoy Aquino)," she said.
Pedrosa belongs to the newly-formed Citizens for the Right to Information, which is calling on Noynoy to release his medical history or undergo a psychiatric test.
Noynoy refused to dignify the group’s request, saying the burden of proof is not on him.
"Niyurakan ang pagkatao ko, tapos ako ang kailangang magpaliwanag, ako ang kailangang magpatunay na iyong false ay false talaga (It was I who was maligned, and yet they are asking me to explain and show proof that what is false is indeed false)," he said at a campaign sortie in La Union last Saturday.
Noynoy’s party, the Liberal Party (LP), has blamed the Manny Villar Jr.-led Nacionalista Party (NP), as the group behind the fake psychiatric reports. Villar is Noynoy’s closest rival for the presidency. - Sophia Dedace/KBK, GMANews.TV
