MANILA, Philippines - Charice has won praises after singing the country's national anthem before the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley fight at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Contrary to her signature performances wherein she mostly belts out high notes, the "Glee" star’s version of the "Lupang Hinirang" seemed to be faithful to its marching tempo.

Netizens, including former US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney, lauded Charice. The young singer was introduced as an "outstanding singer, television and film actress.”

American R&B singer and actor Tyrese sang the US national anthem, "Star-Spangled Banner."

"Lovely national anthem's. Beautifully sung by both. Charice sounded great!," Kenney said.

Twitter user Raymund Lamarca said: "Excellent performance in singing the Philippine National Anthem. Congratulations #Charice . Ur d best! @OfficialCharice :))."

"Nice one #charice. Someone fin'lly perfect it..," user Careline Ballega said.

Pao Dela Vega tweeted: "Singing the Lupang Hinirang is not about belting to impress people. It's hitting the right note on the right tempo. Kudos #charice!!!"

Meanwhile, some criticized the 18-year-old singer.

Christian Pagtakhan believes that "Pacquiao Mosley fight was generally boring...i think its because charice's rendition of the natl anthem was boring.."

Angel Yamat said: "I swear charice gained weight! she looked fat lol."

User randomsupergirl said: " @cediebatu Sooooobra! :)) Philippine national anthem palang turn off na ahahahaa."

The National Historical Institute (NHI), the government's culture and development agency, has yet to comment on Charice's rendition.

The NHI previously reminded Filipino singers not to take liberties in singing the national anthem.

Among those who were heavily criticized by the institution for their alleged wrong versions of the anthem were "Concert King" Martin Nievera, international singing star Arnel Pineda, singing trio “La Diva,” Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo, and Asia's Nightingale Lani Misalucha.

According to Section 37 of Republic Act (RA) 8491, the rendition of the national anthem, whether played or sung, shall be in accordance with the musical arrangement and composition of Julian Felipe.
