Amid the sex scandal hounding his former girlfriend, Katrina Halili, R&B singer Kris Lawrence is busy preparing for the launch of his latest album and single – “Careless Whisper.”

Ironically, in one of their controversial videos, Halili and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Hayden Kho are seen dancing provocatively while the doctor sings “Careless Whisper.”

Lawrence, however, clarified that it was just a coincidence that he did his own version of the song. “Nagkataon lang ito. Natiyempuhan lang as in timing na timing lang."

After the sex scandal involving Halili and Kho had surfaced, Lawrence said he persuaded his album producer to change his single but it was already too late.

Lawrence said: "Nagpi-prepare ako para sa album launch ko first week of June. Lahat naka-plano na, lahat ng video, tapos dumating lang itong araw na ito."

"Me and Katrina are friends. So, kahit friends kami, ano ba ang mararamdaman niya every time na kakantahin ko or maririnig niya ang kanta? Masasaktan [siya] pero wala talaga akong magagawa," he added.

The singer said he got hurt when he heard about the scandal. He said he feels bad for Halili but he assured the actress of his support. 

"Kung kailangan niya ako nandito lang ako," Lawrence said.
