MANILA -- The reconciliation of Maja Salvador and Kim Chiu as their characters in "Ina, Kapatid, Anak" sent netizens abuzz on Tuesday, with many wondering if the tender moment between the erstwhile best friends has translated into real life.

In the hit primetime series, Margaux (Salvador) and Celyn (Chiu) are caught in a bitter feud, initially over Celyn falling for her best friend's partner Ethan (Enchong Dee).

Later, however, their tiff escalates with the revelation that Celyn is the biological daughter of Margaux's apparent foster parents Beatrice and Julio (Janice de Belen and Ariel Rivera).

The rivalry of the two lead characters intensifies with the revelation that they are in fact biological twins -- the children of Julio and Beatrice, given birth to by the latter's half-sister Theresa (Cherry Pie Picache), who had volunteered to be a surrogate mother.

In recent episodes of the series, Margaux's hatred towards Celyn grows when her friend and confidant Liam (Xian Lim) falls in love with her twin.

The warring sides, however, finally reconcile, as seen in the May 21 episode of the series, when they are brought together by the worsening condition of Julio, who barely survives a gunshot in a plot to kill him.

"Ngayon, kung may mangyari man kay dad," a tearful Margaux tells Celyn, "hindi ko alam kung paano ako makakabawi, hindi ko alam kung paano ako makakahingi ng tawad sa kanya for hurting him, for hurting our family, for hurting you. Kahit gusto ko man magbago ngayon, feeling ko huli na ang lahat."

"Margaux, makinig ka," Celyn says. "Walang masamang mangyayari kay daddy, dahil magkasama tayo at magtutulungan tayong lahat."

Breaking down, Margaux tells her sister, "Celyn, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry. I'm sorry, Celyn. I'm so sorry."

Embracing her sister, Celyn says, "Okay lang, okay na 'yun. Kaya natin 'to, hindi tayo pababayan ng Diyos, at hindi niya pababayaan si daddy."

Leading up to the reconciliation, the creators of "Ina, Kapatid, Anak" admitted that putting together confrontational scenes between Margaux and Celyn has become increasingly difficult, in light of the reported real-life tension between the two actresses.

The soap first aired in October last year, and was already billed at the time as featuring the "rivalry" of the two principal characters.

It was in early January when Chiu expressed regret over her "wasted" friendship with Salvador, following reports of a blooming "relationship" between the "Thelma" actress and actor Gerald Anderson.

Chiu and Anderson broke up in 2010 amid controversies surrounding their relationship.

Following speculations on the real score between them, Anderson finally admitted to entertainment magazine StarStudio in its June 2013 issue that he and Salvador are now officially a couple.

Early this month, Chiu said she has forgiven both her erstwhile best friend and former partner, but added that it was "difficult to forget."

On micro-blogging site Twitter, netizens on Tuesday were quick to draw comparisons between the real-life and on-screen relationships of the two Kapamilya actresses.

Referring to their characters' tearful reconciliation in "Ina, Kapatid, Anak," some followers of the hit series lauded the "professionalism" of both Chiu and Salvador in mounting the scene, while others wondered if their acting was fueled by their complicated relationship in real life.
