MANILA, Philippines -- Almost a decade since his last major appearance in show business, former actor Onemig Bondoc has re-surfaced to announce his entry into the world of politics.

Bondoc, whose last acting role in a television series was ABS-CBN's "Marina," on Tuesday confirmed plans to seek a political post in his native Bataan.

Since he retired from showbiz, he said he has had time to mull over his aspiration to become a public servant.

"Yes, it's true I'm really eyeing for the vice-governatory seat of Bataan. 'Yun talaga 'yung binabalak ko ngayon, that's why I'm always in Bataan, nagpapakilala na ho ako doon," Bondoc said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

"Matagal ko na hong pinag-isipan 'to, at matagal na rin akong wala sa showbiz. It's been nine years, at nine years ko narin pinag-isipan 'to kung talagang gusto ko pumasok, and talagang ang puso ko talaga, talagang gusto ko," he said.

Bondoc, who admits to be relatively inexperienced in public service, also said being vice-governor is ideal for a beginner in the field, and that it would offer him the chance to help address issues in the entire province.

"Since I'm a beginner, I think ang pinakamaganda talaga sa akin ay vice governor, kasi hindi ako 'yung nasa head. Napag-aaralan ko kung paano, at buong Bataan ang nakikita ko, kung ano 'yung problema ng buong Bataan, at iyon ang gusto kong matulungan," he said.

The former actor, who is married to French-Filipina model Valerie Bariou, said he is grateful for the support of his friends and family, a number of which, he added, have inspired him to become a politician himself.

"I came from a family of politicians ...I'm happy because my family, my friends are all supporting me in this new endeavor that I'm going into," he said.
