MANILA - The highly anticipated return of "The Voice of the Philippines" last Saturday drew strong nationwide viewership, according to Kantar Media, making it the No. 1 most watched program in the Philippines over the weekend.

The pilot episode of ABS-CBN's "The Voice Kids" garnered 33.3% in national TV ratings, as measured by Kantar Media using a panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes.

Its rival program, "Vampire Ang Daddy Ko," aired on GMA-7, lagged by 21 percentage-points with a nationwide rating of 11.9%.

The viewership of "The Voice Kids" even soared on Sunday, as it posted a nationwide rating of 35.8% versus the 15.8% viewership of its competing program "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho."

To compare, the first two episodes of "The Voice of the Philippines" aired in June last year registered nationwide ratings of 30.5% and 27.7%, respectively. Its final episode hit 30.3% when it aired last September.

In the first weekend of "The Voice Kids," coaches Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo Manalac, and Lea Salonga recruited young artists into their respective teams through the Blind Auditions.

As of the May 25 episode, 9 artists have already convinced at least one coach to turn around, with 2 hopefuls getting a slot in Team Sarah, 4 in Team Bamboo, and 3 in Team Lea.
