Borgy, Georgina admit breaking up, getting back together
MANILA - TV host and model Georgina Wilson has admitted that she and long-time boyfriend Borgy Manotoc decided to break up for a time, but have since gotten back together.
Wilson opened up about her relationship with Manotoc, a grandson of former President Ferdinand Marcos, on the sidelines of the press launch of his cologne under local lifestyle brand Bench.
When asked about Manotoc's earlier admission of the breakup, Wilson said, "Well I think it was a hard time for both of us to talk [about it], but you never know how important something is until you lose it, 'diba? So ngayon, alam na namin!"
She did not give further details about the brief separation, which was first rumored in January this year.
Manotoc, in a separate interview at the same event, said his relationship with Wilson has become stronger. He added that they remain focused on their respective careers and quashed talks of a possible wedding in the near future.
"We're good, we're very happy. [We've been together] for over four years, so it's pretty serious," Manotoc said. "We're still very driven though. We both have a lot of things that we like to do and to achieve before we think about something more serous. I think we're in a good place."
Asked what their secret is to having a long-lasting relationship, Manotoc answered: "I think each relationship is different. I think the key is being open and understanding each other. Of course, trust and respect. You can't build anything without that."
The next stage
Similarly, Wilson said she is in no rush to settle down with Manotoc. For now, the Filipina-British model said is enjoying their relationship.
"Naku, you know, I feel like when I relationship feels really good, you're not rushing to get to the next stage," she said. "You're like enjoying the stage that you're in. For me, I love this stage."
Wilson added: "I think it's obviously natural for people to ask, like, 'When are you guys going to get married?' But I think that right now, it just works so well. I'm just happy right now with where we are."
Asked if she would be ready to say "yes" should Manotoc propose marriage to her anytime soon, Wilson said, "Sa edad namin, you won't be with someone pag hindi ka sure na sila na 'yung papakasalan mo, 'di ba?"
With a recent trend of elaborate wedding proposals, Manotoc said he does not see himself going public with his own grand gesture when the time comes.
"I think there's a balance. At a certain point, there are things that you want to be just to yourselves, to your own, when it comes to part of your life especially. I don't know if I would be very public about it," he said.
"I think Georgina's also played an interesting balance of being a celebrity but also not being in show business. I think also, just the same, she'd like her life to private as much as she can," Manotoc added.
But Wilson, who has drawn a huge following after five years in the limelight, made an assuring statement to her fans.
Speaking to a reporter, she said, "When [Borgy and I] do get to the next stage, I'd be so happy and I'll tell you right away! Huwag ka mag-alala!"
