Nikki Gil interprets PhilPop's 'Babalikan Mo Rin Ako'
MANILA - Singer Nikki Gil, who has moved on from her relationship with Billy Crawford, has agreed to interpret the 2014 PhilPop song "Babalikan Mo Rin Ako" by Soc Villanueva.
Gil admitted that she was initially hesitant to interpret the song as she anticipated how some people would react to it.
She stressed that she only accepted the project to give inspiration and hope to others.
"Noong in-offer ito sa akin, parang sabi ko huwag na... I am aware, alam ko naman sa mundo natin there are a lot of people who will say a lot of things, some of them not very kind.
"But I realized that this song echoes the sentiments of so many women. Maganda naman 'yung twist ng kanta and it gives hope. It just so happens that it's a reality that a lot of women face. I think itong kantang ito ay marami ang makaka-relate," Gil said.
Gil went on to explain that her interpretation of the song has nothing to do with her past relationship with Crawford, who is now dating "It's Showtime" co-host Coleen Garcia.
"'Yun lang 'yung medyo kabayaran ng trabaho namin, everything will be traced back to that, pero not necessarily. In fact, the song was written with a married couple in mind. Alam ko kwento talaga ng mag-asawa ito. At marami akong more adult friends, mga kaibigan ng mommy ko na naririnig ko ang mga kwento nila which reflect more or less the same mechanics in their relationship.
"So I wouldn't say it is dedicated to anyone in particular. I would say because of my experience, I am able to give it more emotion, I guess, but I wouldn't say it's dedicated to anyone in particular. It just echoes what a lot of women go through. It gives hope na hindi kayo nag-iisa. Marami ang napagdaanan, it happens, but at the end of the day it's up to you to get up and just move forward."
Meanwhile, Gil said she is happy with how her life is going, sharing that she is currently dating someone who is not from showbiz.
"I am exclusively dating. I'm sure a lot of people would see me with the same people," she said.
