SAN JOSE - Hollywood martial-arts actor Steven Segal met Friday with Costa Rica's federal police chief to discuss training methods for the local police force of which he is seeking to become an honorary member, the Foreign Ministry said.

"Steven Segal requested the meeting... we discussed the strategic alliance we could strike in matters such as training our special tactical units in performance, personal defense and other security-related aspects," Rojas said in a ministry statement.

Segal, 59, "showed interest in becoming a honorary member of Costa Rica's federal police," he added.

Besides starring in several Hollywood action movies, Segal, 59, is an accomplished martial arts expert and serves as reserve deputy chief of the Sheriff's Office in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. In 2009, his work there was made into a TV reality show.

The US actor paid a courtesy visit Friday to Foreign Minister Rene Castro, with whom he also discussed security-related issue, the statement said.
