MANILA, Philippines -- Actor Richard Yap and actress Jodi Sta. Maria are set to headline a new television series under ABS-CBN.

Following a guest role in top-rating soap "Walang Hanggan," Yap is set to return to daily television via a new series co-starring Sta. Maria, whose last lead role in a primetime series was in the inspirational "100 Days to Heaven."

Yap, who is best known for his role as Chen Sy -- or Papa Chen -- in "My Binondo Girl," said he is thankful for the constant stream of projects the Kapamilya network has given him.

"I'm really very thankful sa ABS kasi ang dami ng projects na binigay sakin, after 'Binondo Girl' -- 'Walang Hanggan' and now this one," Yap told ABS-CBN on Tuesday.

While relatively new to the business, Yap said he is intent on proving his worth as an actor, especially after the multiple breaks he has gotten since playing Kim Chiu's estranged father in "Binondo," his breakthrough role.

"I will try to do my best na ipakita sa kanila na they weren't wrong in giving me this project. Sobrang thankful talaga ako, and to be working with so many stars na kaagad, especially now sa project na ito with Jodi," he said.

Yap said details of the new series, which will also star child actress Mutya Orquia, will be revealed soon and is slated for a release sometime this year.
