13-year-old Cebuano charms coaches, netizens
MANILA - A 13-year-old Cebuano mixed talent, charm and sense of humor for his performance on the blind auditions of "The Voice Kids" aired Saturday.
Juan Karlos Labajo had both coaches Bamboo Manalac and Sarah Geronimo fighting over him after he sang his rendition of Adam Sandler's "Grow Old With You."
"Alam mo, nagustuhan ko 'yung storytelling sa pagkanta mo," said Geronimo. "Kung baga sa pagkain ikaw ay--"
"--ooh la la?" interjected Labajo, who had everyone at the studio laughing at his every joke and quip.
He even had coach Lea Salonga jump to her feet after he playfully flashed his eyebrows towards Geronimo. "Oh my God!" said Salonga. "Nakakatuwa ka."
To which Labajo said: "Sayang Miss Lea, hindi ka nag-turn."
"Alam mo kasi, when you first opened your mouth, I was looking at these two (Manalac and Geronimo), mas babagay ka sa kanila," explained Salonga.
"Juan Karlos, sa akin ka na. Kasi tawa lang ako ng tawa sa iyo. Isasama kita sa gigs, concerts para matuwa lang ako," Manalac said as he tried to convince the half-German to join his team.
In response, Geronimo grabbed a poster of her concert and wrote Labajo's name as a guest star. "Ito, siguradong sigurado na 'to na makakasama kita. Gusto kita makasama sa mga concert ko please," she pleaded.
"Based on my calculations, itong coach na 'ito, bagay sa akin, alam ko siya ang talagang makakatulong sa akin. Lea, ay joke," he said, which again had the audience laughing and applauding his wit.
"The coach that I am going to choose is coach Bamboo," he finally said.
"You are the funniest kid I have ever met," replied Manalac.
Charming his way to the top
Moments after his performance aired, netizens took to microblogging site Twitter and launched his name to the top of worldwide trends.
Both "Juan Karlos" and "Grow Old With You" had more mentions on the social media site than the show's official hashtag "TheVoiceKidsPH."
