Blanco leads RP Independence Day concert in Doha
Rocker Rico Blanco and actress-television host Rica Parlejo will grace the commemoration of the 111th anniversary of Philippine Independence in Doha, Qatar.
Doha-based “The Links Band” will be performing with them in a concert for a cause at the Ramada Hotel’s Qube Club.
“Ang proceeds po nating ay pupunta sa distressed overseas Filipino workers ng Doha, Qatar,” said band manager and vocalist, Judy Estrada.
But first, Estrada’s group reminded the concertgoers that the hotel management has new rules for those who are attending the event at their club. Ticket holders should be a member of the Qube Club before they are allowed to watch the event.
"Nagkaroon po ng konting changes po sa policy. Bale kailangan po na ang lahat ng pupunta sa Qube ay member,” said The Links Band leader Allan Dizon.
Several Filipino organizations in Qatar pledged its support to make the celebrations of the Philippine Independence Day a memorable one.
The Philippine Independence Organizing Committee 2009 said “Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan” will be this year’s theme.
"Mayroon tayong musical variety shows. There will also be drama and pageantry. Mayroon din tayong photo exhibit of our historical heritage. Of course, ‘yong ating beautiful scenery sa Pilipinas because we are trying to show pride in our country,” said Tony Tarog, president of the committee.
The committee also organized other events such as medical mission, on-the-spot painting contest, storytelling, martial arts demonstration, car show, and games for kids.
Meanwhile, Blanco is gearing up for another music project with ABS-CBN, this time with the network’s campaign called "Boto Mo, Patrol Mo: Ako ang Simula". The year-long campaign aims to encourage Filipinos to take active role in the upcoming 2010 national elections.
