MANILA, Philippines -- Dolphy's family is now at his side as the King of Philippine Comedy fights for his life at the intensive care unit of the Makati Medical Center.

Dolphy's grandson Ruel Quizon, son of the late actor Freddie Quizon, on Wednesday evening said their entire family is now at the hospital, and have sought a priest to offer prayers for the recovery of the Philippine showbiz icon.

"[Nandito kami] simula kanina pang one or three (p.m.). Andito na kasi lahat ng mga pamilya, andito na lahat ng kapatid ni Papa," Ruel said in an interview on dzMM.

"Ngayon medyo kalmante, kanina medyo nagdasal kami sa taas. Dumating si Father Sonny Ramirez, pinagdasal namin si Lolo," Ruel added.

Ruel also said his grandfather remains responsive to members of his family.

"Iba 'yung aura niya ngayon, parang hindi ko masabi na nahihirapan siya kasi 'yung ulo niya lang 'yung gumagalaw, ang hirap ipaliwanag," he said.

"'Pag kinakausap mo siya, magre-respond siya, gagalaw niya yung kilay niya," he said.

Dolphy's son, Eric Quizon,  earlier said that the Comedy King has been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which hinders the flow of air to the lungs. The condition is generally permanent and may be progressive over time.

Likening COPD to cancer, Eric said Dolphy's illness has developed into a toxic metabolic encephalopathy, which could lead to sepsis or the poisoning of the blood.

Eric, however, said his father is a fighter, having survived 10 bouts with pneumonia in a year.

Eric also said the family is still hoping “na makakasama pa namin siya.”

"Pretty much the same iyung condition niya," he told radio dzMM Wednesday night. "Walang masyadong pagbabago. He is stable pero nagfa-fluctuate. Unpredictable iyung nangyayari sa kaniya ngayon."

"He is fighting," Eric added.

He said they have informed all of Dolphy's children about their father's condition.

Eric thanked all the people praying for his father.
