Dolphy 'cheated' death many times before
Dolphy already bought a coffin
MANILA, Philippines - King of Comedy Dolphy, who is currently in critical condition at the Makati Medical Center, has already cheated death a number of times.
In his autobiography "Dolphy: Hindi Ko Ito Narating Ng Mag-Isa," Dolphy shared that his first brush with death was as a teenager.
During the Japanese occupation of Manila, a young Dolphy was surprised when the person he was sitting next to fell from a train. He didn't say, however, how the accident happened.
And on another occasion, he said, "Lumubog ang barko na sinasakyan ng dati kong entertainment troupe."
Dolphy and long-time partner Zsa Zsa Padilla were also scheduled to be in Baguio when the July 16, 1990 earthquake hit the mountain city.
Dolphy also said he has had several operations, including a heart bypass.
According to Dolphy's son, Eric Quizon, his father was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) five years ago.
In his book, Dolphy said he has always been ready to face his Maker.
"The inevitable will come. It's your time. Sabi nga nila, alam mo, 'pag malapit na. You feel it," Dolphy said.
In fact, the comedin said he already bought his own coffin.
"Matagal na itong chismis; I will confirm it. Mayro'n na nga akong kabaong bronze. No'n ko pa kinuha. Isa din ako sa kauna-unahang bumili ng family estate plan sa Loyola Memorial Park sa Marikina," he said.
In an interview on "TV Patrol" on Wednesday night, Eric Quizon said that when Dolphy was diagnosed with COPD he already talked to his children about his last wishes.
So naayos na namin yon," Eric said.
Quizon said even his father can't talk, they know that he is still fighting for his life.
Alam namin na he's still hanging on. We are hoping na makasama pa namin siya, makasama nating lahat," he said.
