MANILA - "A voice like yours is what we were waiting for."

These are just some of the words of compliment that the coaches of "The Voice Kids" handed out to a 14-year-old singer from Cavite at the blind auditions aired Saturday.

Angel Aguilera, who counts former "The Voice" contestants Morissette Amon and Klarisse De Guzman as her inspirations, earned her stripes with an impressive 3-chair-turning performance of Beyonce's "Halo."

"You owned the stage. 'Yun ang total performance. When you own the stage, you just performed and you were just you, and we saw you for that, and that was amazing," Bamboo Manalac, one of the coaches, said.

The other coaches -- Sarah Geronimo and Lea Salonga -- then brought out a couple of accolades they received throughout their careers as an attempt to entice Aguilera to join their respective teams.

"Maraming akong rejections, maraming hindi naniwala sa talento ko pero nagsikap talaga ako at hindi ako tumigil na maabot 'yung pangarap ko, hangga't sa nakamit ko ito," Geronimo said before reaching for her "Star For a Night" trophy which she won back in 2003.

"Kaya ako nabigyan ng chance na maging coach dito sa 'The Voice' dahil dito," she added, clutching her award. "Kaya sana bigyan mo ako ng pagkakataon na maibahagi ko sa iyo lahat ng natutunan ko."

To which Salonga replied: "Awards, huh?" The broadway star then upped the ante as she showed Aguilera her Tony and Laurence Olivier Award, which she won for her role as Kim in "Miss Saigon."

The 43-year-old explained that these awards are not just something to boast about, but are reminders of all the hard work and difficulties singers -- like her and Geronimo -- had to go through to get to where they are now.

"So what has made all those late nights worth it is getting to sit here and meet people like you," she said to Aguilera.

The young singer eventually chose to go with Salonga, saying she is the one best suited to further improve her vocal skills. She became the 17th member of the team, along with Rein Carmelite Pineda, who, earlier in episode, also chose Salonga.

"The Voice Kids," which is hosted by Luis Manzano and Alex Gonzaga, airs Saturdays at 6:45 p.m. and on Sundays at 7:30 p.m.
