MANILA - Pitting 3 of the most coveted artists on "The Voice Kids" against each other proved to be a difficult undertaking for coach Lea Salonga, who had to eliminate 2 of them leading up to the semi-finals.

All hopefuls who turned three chairs in the Blind Auditions, Giedie Laroco, Angel Aguilera, and Grace Alade were put in the same group by Salonga in The Battles leg of the competition.

In the Saturday episode of the ABS-CBN show, the trio gave a soaring rendition of "When You Believe," which was originally sang by divas Mariah Carey and the late Whitney Houston.

Coach Sarah Geronimo picked Aguilera as her preferred winner of the Battle. "More than the intention to impress us, you inspired us," the pop star told Aguilera.

Similarly, Salonga was impressed most with the 14-year-old, who, in the Blind Auditions, convinced all three coaches to turn with her rendition of Beyonce's "Halo."

"It was a very difficult decision to make," Salonga said of picking Aguilera, which meant eliminating Laroco and Alade.

The Broadway star, in the post-Battles interview, noted that Aguilera had been feeling sick and was just recovering when she performed against 2 of the front-runners.

"The three of them were just wonderful, e. Pero I had to go with the girl who did the best that she could, despite the fact that she was compromised. She was really fighting," Salonga said.

Throughout The Battles, Salonga had to judge 5 more performances, trimming her stable of young artists from 18 to six.

The six victors from Team Lea will move on to The Sing-Offs, which will air on Sunday. Here, each artist will perform solo with a song of his or her choice. The coach will have to pick only two who will get a slot each in the semi-finals.
