MANILA, Philippines – Veteran actor Joel Torre appealed to Filipinos to support "Amigo," a film about the Filipino-American war, as it competes alongside box-office giants "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2."
"Amigo" is being screened in 12 cinemas only compared to the more than 100 theaters that carry the big budget Hollywood movie "Transformers." Many cinemas are also expected to screen "Harry Potter" next week.
Hollywood director and producer John Sayles wrote and directed "Amigo."
The film retells the events that took place during the Filipino-American War in 1900, but are virtually "unknown in the United States," Sayles said.
The "Harry Potter” film franchise has earned $6 billion worldwide at the box office, while the global ticket sales of "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" have neared $400 million on its 6th day, according to Reuters. - Report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
