'No sex' rule for Star Magic artists?
MANILA, Philippines - Popularity comes with great responsibility. In the case of Star Magic artists, they are following strict codes when it comes to morality. This code of conduct and ethics are written in a handbook.
Star Magic head Mariole Alberto said in an interview with Yes! Magazine that the code of conduct of ethics, which comes in a handbook, aims to keep the stars' image intact.
Among Star Magic's talents are Coco Martin, Julia Montes, Kathryn Bernardo, Angelica Panganiban, Erich Gonzales, Enchong Dee, Gerald Anderson, Kim Chiu, Piolo Pascual and KC Concepcion.
"Meron kaming handbook for the talents na bawal ang smoking, bawal ang drugs. Siyempre, bawal ang sex," Alberto said.
But Star Magic chairman emeritus Johnny Manahan was quick to add: "Hindi naman sa bawal ang sex. Bawal ang sex in public."
Nevertheless, Alberto said stars who are found violating the rules will face serious consequences.
"So we fine them... so it's like a school," she said.
For Freddie Garcia, former president of ABS-CBN, the strict rules allowed Star Magic "to professionalize the handling of talents."
"Dito, talagang with the prestige of ABS and the discipline and also the integrity of Johnny and Mariole, iba ang tingin ng tao. 'Yon bang hindi ka mababastos diyan. Siguradong your morality is upheld, di ba?" he said.
Star Magic is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
