MANILA - While rocker Bamboo Manalac wished he had more time to train and asses his young artists, he had no choice but to choose two from the six kids who made it to the Sing-Offs of "The Voice Kids."

And on Sunday, Manalac chose Edray Teodoro and Juan Karlos Labajo, both 13 years old, to represent Team Bamboo in the finals round.

Edray's breakaway performance

Teodoro, who joined the competition to prove her bullies wrong, exceeded expectations as she performed "Tulak ng Bibig" by singer Julianne.

"This time in-exceed mo pa 'yung expectations ko," said Sarah Geronimo. "Kung isa kang actor, alam mo kung paano ilagay 'yung sarili mo sa kanta. Napaka-versatile mong singer... I like your personality."

Meanwhile, Teodoro's own coach thought it was her breakaway performance.

"I think this was your breakaway moment. This is the one where you sort of [say], 'okay, coach, ito 'yung kanta ko, ito 'yung gagawin ko. So sit down and watch me.' I was so impressed, said Manalac who also thanked the 13-year-old for being on his team.

Teodoro said school bullies used to call her names because of her weight and she joined "The Voice Kids" to show them that there's more to her than meets the eye.

"Kaya po ako sumali sa 'The Voice' ay para mabigyan ko pa po ng more confidence ang sarili ko at para po masabi rin nila na 'hindi lang pala ganyan 'yan,'" she said.

Juan Karlos makes Bamboo believe

For his part, Labajo proved his coach that he is a total performer with an emotional rendition of Rihanna's "Stay."

"Bago ka umakyat daw, they were telling me you were getting a little emotional, na medyo nahihirapan ka, pero you did great out there," said Manalac.

"You have proven from the Battles to this point that you are a total performer. And i am a believer," he added.

Lea Salonga, meanwhile, was impressed on how Labajo conducted himself during the Battles into the Sing-Offs.

"Mahigit na isang milyong tao ang nakakita kay Juan Karlos na nagpapatawa. And during the Battles, ang ginawa niya, hindi siya nagpatawa, kumanta lang siya. That was beautiful to watch," said Salonga.

She added the aside from Labajo's talent, what separates him from the others is the way he connects emotionally with the song.

"Marunong siya mag-connect emotionally sa isang kanta, which is an edge for a singer. Technically swak lahat e, pero pag walang puso, wala... So that's what he has," said Salonga.

Teodoro and Labajo bested their teammates Nathan Bautista, Gem Capalad, Borge Rivera and Stacey Pineda during the Sing-Offs.

An emotional Manalac thanked the kids who did not make it to the finals and wished them all well.

Last week, Darlene Vibares, 9, and Tonton Cabiles, Jr., 11, was chosen to represent Team Lea in the finals.

All 18 members of Team Sarah, meanwhile, will battle it out in next week's episode.

"The Voice Kids," hosted by Luis Manzano and Alex Gonzaga, airs Saturdays at 6:45 p.m. and on Sundays at 7:30 p.m.
