Dolphy musical in the works
MANILA, Philippines – A stage musical on the life and works of the country's King of Comedy is currently in its planning stages, according to the film icon's biographer.

Screenwriter-actress Bibeth Orteza, who wrote veteran actor Dolphy's 2008 biography "Hindi Ko Ito Mararating Mag-Isa," said the Quizon family is getting into the early stages of translating his life and career into a musical.
"Ang pamilya may mga plano. Iniisip namin right now, the family, we're mulling the possibility of translating Tito Dolphy's life into a musical," Orteza told ABS-CBN News in a recent interview.
The planned musical is envisioned to feature prominently Dolphy's being a dancer, which also figured in his 65-year career in the entertainment industry.
"Ito, parang dance musical on the life of Dolphy. I'm sure it's going to be marvelous, because he's a dancer. Talagang wow 'yung kanyang sayaw eh, and I'm hoping to be a part of the production. We're getting into that," Orteza said.
'The Filipino everyman'
With or without the celebratory musical, Dolphy's legacy as a film icon already has its firm footing in the industry, Orteza said.
"Ang Tito Dolphy naman, hindi mawawala sa atin 'yan. He will live forever be with us. The man's been in our lives for more than four decades, so how can you erase someone like that from memory?
"[He is] a huge major talent, the Filipino everyman, with memorable roles on television. He'll forever be with us, forever be in our minds. He'll be the pattern, he'll be the template," Orteza said.
Dolphy remains in critical condition at the Makati Medical Center (MMC), where he is currently undergoing treatments for pneumonia and complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
