Fans attend tearful premiere of last Harry Potter film
MANILA, Philippines – It was a tearful farewell for the cast and crew of the successful movie franchise “Harry Potter.”
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, the lead stars of the movie, thanked their fans from across the world who went to the Trafalgar Square in London on Thursday just to witness the global premiere of the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.”
“This is a fitting send off. It feels right. It feels like we are doing justice to what is not just a fantastic film but a fantastic series,” Radcliffe said, who played the lead role in all 8 films.
“Thanks for all your support over the years. This last film is a very special one to all of us, and I can't believe that it's really over. And I hope you enjoy the film,” Grint said, who played the role of Ron Weasely.
They were also joined in by J.K Rowling, the author of the novels, which the movie series is based.
Rowling said because of the novels and the movies, Harry Potter’s magic will continue to live on.
An ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau team was privileged to be among those exclusively invited to witness the event.
The news team was able to interview fans from around the world who braved the rains to be at the momentous premiere.
“Gusto po naming makita yung premiere night nung Harry Potter, so as we can see napakadami pong tao from different countries and around the world. So It's out pleasure po to see them,” said Mai, a Filipina fan of the movie.
“[I’m from] Slovenia,” said another fan.
Some celebrities who were part of the movie have a message for their Filipino fans.
“l'd like to tell you that I came to your country many years ago and I had a wonderful time. And I love you all very much, and I wish I could speak Tagalog,” sabi David Thewlis, who played the role of Remus Lupin.
“Hello! I've never been to the Philippines so someone invite me please,” Imelda Staunton said. Staunton portrayed the role of Dolores Umbridge in the movie.
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" is based on the franchise's seventh novel.
