Jake Cuenca had no problems with gay scenes in 'Lihis'
MANILA – Actor Jake Cuenca finally broke his silence after receiving numerous reactions following the release of the trailer of his upcoming movie “Lihis.”
In the less than 4-minute clip, Cuenca was seen in several intimate scenes with fellow actor Joem Bascon.
Speaking to ABS-CBN News, Cuenca said he had no reservations doing the movie because he is very comfortable about his sexuality.
“We are all professional. Binibigyan lang naming ng hustisya ang kuwento. Mahirap, maraming shots, take one, pero maraming shots. It’s part of it, part of the process. Alam ko naman ang pinasukan ko when I did 'Lihis.' Joem knew the same thing,” he said.
Saying he and Bascon are good friends in real life, Cuenca said they did not have any problems shooting the sex scenes because they both know it’s just work.
“I didn’t question anything. 'Yung piyesa lang napakaganda. Once in a lifetime to work with direk Joel and Ricky Lee. This is the perfect project. Isa siyang masterpiece nina Joel Lamangan and Ricky Lee,” he said.
According to Cuenca, he is looking forward to more challenging roles in the future as he feels he is now a better actor.
“Like I said, I’m ready to do different things. I’m ready to portray a lot of challenging roles. I feel like I have the tools already, this is one of them,” he said.
In “Lihis,” Cuenca and Bascon play communist rebels during the '70s. Amid their struggles to fight for freedom, the two form a bond beyond friendship that becomes intimate.
Aside from Cuenca and Bascon, "Lihis" also stars Isabelle Daza, Lovi Poe and Gloria Diaz.
“I’m really praying na maraming manood ng pelikula naming because it’s an eye-opener. It’s something also na about Philippine history. Marami silang matututunan sa pelikula,” Cuenca said.
“Lihis” is among the 12 entries to the Sineng Pambansa All Masters Series Film Festival, scheduled in September. The film festival is organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
