'The Voice of the Philippines' kicks off Battle Rounds
MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine edition of the hit global franchise "The Voice" kicked off its highly anticipated "Battle Rounds" Tuesday, three weeks ahead of its scheduled telecast.
"The Voice of the Philippines" on July 8 started the two-day taping of the talent search's second phase, which will have the four superstar-coaches trim down the number of members on their respective teams by pairing them up in a singing showdown.
The artist in each "battle" who impresses their coach will continue on to join the live performance phase of the competition.
In its official accounts on various social media platforms, the production behind "The Voice of the Philippines" shared sneak-peeks of the coaches on the Battle Rounds set.
One photo shows coach Bamboo Mañalac at the side of the boxing ring-inspired stage while appearing to guide artists on his team. Earlier photos also show coaches Sarah Geronimo and Allan "apl.de.ap" Pineda rehearsing for the Battle Rounds.
Coach Lea Salonga, on her Twitter page, had earlier expressed excitement about the next part of the show. The Broadway star said the Battle Rounds will start airing on July 28.

As of the most recent episode of "The Voice of the Philippines" aired last Sunday, Mañalac has already recruited nine artists; Geronimo and Pineda, eight each; and Salonga, seven.
Each coach is forming a team of 12 artists.
Hosted by Toni Gonzaga with Alex Gonzaga and Robi Domingo, "The Voice of the Philippines" airs Saturdays at 9 p.m. and Sundays at 8:15 p.m.
