For Ellen, kids first before marriage

MANILA -- Fans of Ellen Adarna consider him one of the luckiest guys on Earth.

For the first time, the 26-year-old actress opened up about her non-showbiz boyfriend, Raoul Olbes, and how she feels lucky to have finally found a man who meets all the requirements in her checklist.

Adarna got candid about her relationship during a press conference on Tuesday announcing the extension of her ABS-CBN series "Moon of Desire," with co-stars Meg Imperial and JC de Vera.

The sought-after sexy model explained that while her past boyfriends satisfied some of her criteria, they disappointed in other aspects.

"Kasi nagka-boyfriend ako dati, ang pa-pangit! Pangit na nga, salbahe pa, wala pang pera!" she said, laughing. "Most of them are [like that]!"

"'Yung iba nang-uutang pa! Hay naku, bobits talaga! Nagpapa-utang! May mga boyfriends na non-showbiz na gano'n din 'yung ganap -- guwapo naman, pero ganito lang. 'Yung isa, pangit pero ganito," she said.

Asked how she ended up still dating guys who did not meet her expectations, Adarna feigned crying and slapped her face, as if to shake off any illusion she had about her past relationships.

"Tanga-tanga lang. Ewan ko! I don't know!" she said.

Fortunately for her, she had no trouble leaving her previous partners, thanks to a "switch" that helped her detach emotionally when it was time to break up.

She explained: "Kasi ako 'yung nang-iiwan. Never pa akong naiwan -- oh my god, sana hindi -- so parang... But when I leave, it's done, galit. I'm mad. So I don't feel anything and I'm numb. Talent ko -- I have a switch I can turn off and on. So when I'm mad, I can leave like that!"

"'Yun lang nga, I can't, 'Pay me your utang!'" she added, laughing.

Feeling lucky

This string of unsatisfying relationships, Adarna said, is precisely the reason why she considers Olbes a catch.

According to her, he is busy running his family's business. She described him physically as "very Spanish-looking." It helps considerably that he is tall -- a non-negotiable trait for the actress when it comes to finding a partner.

"So now naman, swerte! Gwapo, mabait, mayaman! Chos! Hindi na kami 'KKB,'" she quipped, referring to instances when she had to pay for her meals even on dates with her past boyfriends.

Adarna and Olbes will celebrate their first anniversary as a couple in August, but their ties go a long way back. "I've known him for six years na. We've been friends for that long," Adarna said.

"May something na before, and then hindi lang natuloy. Wala lang, hindi lang natuloy. And then when I broke up with my boyfriend -- boom! -- he just appeared, and ito na," she said.

With a sex symbol and cover-girl favorite for a girlfriend, Olbes, at least according to Adarna, manages to feel secure about their relationship. The actress did not hesitate to credit herself for this, amid her countless, mostly nearly nude, appearances in print media.

"The thing with me is because I never make him feel... I never give him reason to doubt me. I always make him feel secure na, you know, 'It's just you.' Wala naman akong ibang activities. He knows everything I do, so I think that also helps a lot," Ellen said.

"Yes, [he's secure], but because I make an effort also! Chos! I give credit to myself! It takes two to tango naman, 'di ba?" she added.

'Marriage? It's just papers'

Adarna was answering a question about her long-term plans in showbiz, when she candidly shared that she plans on becoming a mom by the time she turns 30 -- not necessarily after getting married. In fact, she prefers if she does not get married at all.

"I see myself [in showbiz] maybe for four more years, five more years. I want to have kids when I'm 30, 31. But I only want two, so okay lang," she said.

Asked if she sees Olbes as her husband, Adarna answered: "But the thing with me, I don't want to get married. I just want kids. I talked to my dad about it before. Actually, he was the one who told me, 'Don't get married, just have kids.' He was the one who told me that, and he was the one who gave me that idea."

This mindset was not always the case, however. She recalled dreaming of "a fairy tale wedding" when she was younger.

"'I want to get married like this, like that, like that. I want to look pretty!' Gano'n. And then now that I'm like almost 30, I'm like, 'No, I don't want to get married. I just want to have kids,'" she said.

The actress, however, is not closing her doors on the possibility of walking down the aisle.

"I just really want to have kids first, and then if I feel like I want to marry the guy... Let's say, sige, I want to get married at 38 or 40, I don't mind," she said.

Luckily for Adarna, Olbes has "the same wavelength" concerning the matter. "Yeah, because we're still together anyway. I mean, if tayo forever, what's the fuss? What's the deal about it? It's just papers."
