MANILA, Philippines – Actress Maricel Soriano paid her last respects to the country’s “comedy king” Dolphy on Wednesday.
Soriano, who played Dolphy’s daughter in the long-running sitcom "John en Marsha," broke to tears as she went near the coffin of the veteran comedian.
She was accompanied by one of Dolphy’s sons, Eric.
In his biography “Dolphy: Hindi Ko Ito Narating Mag-Isa,” the comedy king described Soriano as “ang anak namin ni Nida (Blanca).”
Dolphy said he was amazed by Soriano’s passion in acting even before they worked together in “John en Marsha.”
Pina-guest ko sa Buhay Artista so mga ano pa yan, bago mag Martial Law, before September 1972,” he said.
Certainly treasuring his relationship with Soriano, Dolphy said he gave Soriano some advice when she would ask for it before, like how he does with his own children.
But when she asked me about yung may kissing scene daw siya, eh sabi ko naman medyo bold yon at her age.
Although Dolphy admitted that he felt bad when Soriano left “John en Marsha,” the comedian said he is proud that the actress was able to establish a name for herself in the industry.
