After stroke, Dick Israel appeals for financial aid
MANILA, Philippines - Veteran actor Dick Israel is seeking financial help from his celebrity friends after suffering from a stroke.
"I really need it badly. As you can see I have two kids who are still in college, kung anuman 'yong savings ko nagastos sa gamot," Israel told "The Buzz" co-host Jobert Sucaldito.
Israel suffered a stroke last month, which left half of his body paralyzed and affected his speech.
Israel recounted that he was taping a "night scene" for television series "Magkano ang Iyong Dangal", which was done in the afternoon. "Record heat noong araw na yon, Sobrang init talaga. Pati ang pantalon ko ay umiinit na sa sobrang init... nakauwi pa ako at nakatulog pa ako," he said.
He said he suddenly woke up gasping for air and when he stood up, he fainted and was rushed to hospital.
Fund raising drive
Concerned celebrities spearheaded by Richard Merk have already organized a fund-raising event on July 26 at Level 3 Greenbelt 3, Ayala Center, Makati City.
"Sobrang tuwa ko kagaya si Richard Merk hindi naman kami ganoon ka-close. Ang sarap ng feeling na in-offer niya ang venue niya para gamitin para mag-raise ng fund para sa akin," he said.
Aside from Merk's, other big names in showbiz like Lorna Tolentino and Christopher de Leon already shared their support and prayers for Israel.
"Ipagdasal natin si Dick Israel ng siya ay gumaling na ng maigi," de Leon said
"Sana po ay pagaling kayo and hope to see you soon," Bea Alonzo said.
Hunk actor John Lloyd Cruz added: "Dami naming pinagsamahan sa "Maging Sino Ka Man." Nalulungkot tayo ngayon na medyo hindi maganda ang pinagdadaanan niya ngayon. Miss na miss ko na si Tats (Israel)."

I know a Dad of four, let’s call him Joe, who also recently suffered a stroke, which left half of his body paralyzed and affected his speech too.
Joe has worked all his life for 12 hours a day to make sure his family had food and medical service when needed; he never made millions on selling his movies or music and he is a good catholic too.
Two of his children have just finished college, and the other two just start High School and he would need some funding badly.
Joe has been a good supporter for his family and relatives whenever they needed him, I can promise you all he NEVER wasted any of his hard earned money by going to wild parties of spending it on girlfriends or mistresses.
He was at work when it happened, and his boss refuses to pay him for this day because there is no such thing as employee protection in most of the companies in the Philippines.
I assume that there are millions of “” Joe’s “” in the Philippines who can not afford medical treatment for themselves or their loved ones.
So my dear rich and famous, since you are at it and collecting money for the sick, remember all the “” Joe’s “” out there who make it possible that you all live the life you do.
I am also sure that these people will thank you by watching your movies, listening to your music or spend time in front of the TV instead of going to bed to rest up for another 12 hours hard work.
Remember who pays your income, its those Joe’s, now that they need you, show some compassion, and of course make sure that Dick Israel’s children have money to finish their education too.
